Guide: Rockstar Games Launcher On Linux
Back when i was using Windows one of my favourite games was Red Dead Redemption 2. But when i switched to Linux Mint there were a lot of problems installing it.
Here is a Guide on installing the Rockstar Games Launcher on Linux and how to use mods.
Required programs:
- Lutris
- ProtonPlus
- You can install Lutris from here - https://lutris.net/downloads, but some linux distributions already have it installed.
- Same with ProtonPlus, but you can install it from Flathub - https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.vysp3r.ProtonPlus
We will be using ProtonPlus to install the required Compatibility layer called Proton to Lutris, Before Launching ProtonPlus make sure to have launched Lutris at least once.
When you open ProtonPlus you shoult see something like this:

If you dont see Lutris at the top dont worry, just click on whatever there is and from there you can switch to Lutris.
From here click on Proton-GE and then click the Install icon on the Proton-GE Latest element.
Once that is done you can install Rockstar Games Launcher from the official website like you woult on Windows.
From there open up Lutris and click the little add icon at the top:

This will give you some options, choose Install a Windows game From an executable:
Here give it a name for example Rockstar Games Launcher, but this can be whatever you what as it is purely for identification.
From here click the Install button, this will be follow by another install button which you need to click too.
Here it will ask you for an installation directory, This directory will serve as an "Fake Windows Filesystem" aka a prefix. Choose this carefully because this is where you will install all your games.
Then click continue and you will be asked for the setup file, this is the Rockstar Games Launcher installer you downloaded, choose it and click install.
From now on continue the installation as normal on windows but keep in mind to only use the C:/ filesystem within the installer, because this is the prefix(aka fake windows filesystem) that the app thinks its working in. You cannot choose a location on your Linux machine directly because it uses a different filesystem(which is the reason a prefix is needed).
When you finish the installation and succesfully end up in the Launcher, close it. This will tell lutris which file is the Executable of the Rockstar Games Launcher.
Now you shoult be seeing a new "Game" in Lutris called Rockstar Games Launcher or whatever you named it. Click on it, and at the bottom click the expand button near the play button:

When you click it, you will see a bunch of options.
Click Configure.
From there go to runner options and switch the runner to Proton-GE Latest.
Click Save.
Now you can open up the launcher using the play button and install any game, BUT:
Continue reading...As when you were installing the launcher, dont forget only use folders inside C:/ for all game installations.
